Highlands Church, UCC, located at 355 Franklin Street, is accepting registrations for its Sunday morning religious education throughout the month of September and classes begin September 13th. Newcomers are welcome at any time throughout the year.
Church School takes place at 10 A.M. on Sunday mornings. Children begin in worship and after about 15 minutes leave with their class. Child care for infants and toddlers is offered throughout the entire worship service by dedicated staff in our childcare room. Classes for Grades K-5 use the Shine Curriculum. The lower elementary class each week focuses on a Bible story and fun activity. The upper elementary class begins a more rigorous study of the Bible and its applications. The third grade class partway through the year is instructed in Holy Communion. Older youth through 8th grade explore their personal values and theological questions by examining Biblical text. All church school children participate in service projects.
Confirmation class is offered for youth grades 9 and above. The class, led by our Pastor, Rev. Horne, is offered once a month on Sunday afternoons.
Both Middle School and High School youth are invited to register for youth group. Both groups have an emphasis on service to others. The High School group participates in a Mission Trip every other year. In 2016 the group will spend a week in South Dakota at the Pine Ridge Reservation. We are known as the “dance church” in Melrose and have hosted Middle School dances monthly for 50 years. Should you desire to chaperone a dance, please contact the church office. The dance schedule can be seen on our website@ http://www.mhcc-ucc.org
The Highlands Church is a progressive Christian community that follows the path of Jesus as we seek to embody his love in the world. We participate in service and outreach projects and seek to be peacemakers in our daily lives.
