Great job, Melrose! Your letters and advocacy played a big part in the accreditation of the Stone Zoo. Here’s a letter sent out by Stone Zoo President and CEO John Linehan:
We are thrilled to share with you that Stone Zoo has received accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). The accreditation process is a very thorough and exhaustive one that examines every aspect of an institution from veterinary care, governance, state of the art facilities, funding, and the sustainability of funding. Of the approximately 2,800 animal exhibitors licensed by the United States Department of Agriculture, fewer than 10 percent have AZA accreditation.
The accreditation announcement follows many months of hard work. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this achievement – the state Administration, legislators, the Zoo New England Board of Directors, the Zoo New England Advisory Council, the Zoo staff, and you. We are deeply appreciative of all of your support and advocacy on behalf of this beloved institution.
This fall, Stone Zoo will be hosting a number of exciting events and we hope you will bring your friends and family for a visit soon. We look forward to continuing to provide meaningful opportunities for people of all ages to experience the wonders of the natural world.
