Essex Street Rehabilitation Project Begins This Week

Construction begins this week on the Mass Works Essex Street Rehabilitation Project. Two phases of the project will be happening at the same time:

National Grid gas main upgrades on Essex Street from Main to Myrtle. The project involves upgrading the existing 3” cast iron pipe with a high leak potential to a new 6” plastic pipe and all new services to buildings. All road excavations will be temporary patched before the winter.

Sidewalk, Driveway and Curbing from Emerson to Myrtle and Willow. This work will start at the Emerson end of Essex and work towards Myrtle. The segment from Main to Myrtle will take place in the spring of 2016. Work in November and December will continue so long as weather permits.

The remainder of sidewalk work, Victorian lighting, landscaping, and all roadway work will take place in the Spring of 2016.

Please note that no work will take place the week of Thanksgiving on Essex from Main Street to Myrtle Street to help residents access local businesses around the holiday.

Any questions or concerns on either phase of this project can be directed to Project Engineer Larry Erekson and City Engineer Elena Proakis-Ellis at 781-979-4172.
