Polymnia Choral Society will be performing its annual Holiday Concert, “Luminous Night,” on December 5, 7:30 pm, at St. Mary’s church, 46 Myrtle Street in Melrose and on December 6, at 3:00 pm at the First Congregational Church, 1 Church Street in Wakefield. Under the baton of Music Director Murray Kidd, the concert will include Luminous Night of the Soul by Ola Gjeillo, Then Shall a Star from Jacob Shine Forth by Felix Mendelssohn, and little tree, a poem by e.e.cummings set to music by Eric Whitacre.
In addition to serious and sacred works, “Luminous Night” will offer joyful secular music, including spirited P. D. Q. Bach pieces O Little Town of Hackensack, Good King Kong Looked Out, and Throw the Yule Log On, Uncle John, with lyrics sure to tickle everyone’s funny bone.
This year’s Holiday Concert will feature winner of “Spotlight on High School Talent” Maria Tramontozzi, a Melrose High School junior, who will sing “O Holy Night.”
A traditional carol sing, with audience members encouraged to sing along, will close the concert.
