On March 3, 2016, students and families of the Roosevelt were given the opportunity to tour the world! Over 200 people learned about other countries and cultures through an International Tasting and Student Project Presentations.
The International Tasting showcased food, provided by families and local restaurants, from all over the globe. Families were encouraged to bring favorite meals or experiment with something brand new. Restaurants donating to the event included Mexico Lindo and La Qchara of Melrose, J. Pace of Saugus, Ocean Sushi of Malden, and Rang of Stoneham.
During the International Tasting, two dancers from the Triveni School of Dance in Brookline gave an Indian dance performance.
The Student Project Presentations included 45 exhibits presented by 100 students in grades kindergarten through fifth. Students participated as individuals and in teams.
The World Cultures Fair (WCF) is an opportunity for students to celebrate their heritage or explore a new destination. Global Education in Melrose (GEM) provides an opportunity for youth to become informed, active, and effective global citizens. Roosevelt joins the Middle and High Schools in this endeavor as the first Melrose Elementary School to offer this experience through the World Cultures Fair.
