F.I.S.H. Transportation Program Needs Volunteer Drivers

If you can spare a couple of hours per week, the Melrose Council on Aging would like to offer you the opportunity to experience the rewards of assisting seniors in this “neighbor helping neighbor” program. The time commitment is based entirely on your availability; no driving into Boston and no firm commitment to a schedule required.

The success of Friends In Service to Humanity, a Melrose based program, depends on the availability of volunteer drivers who are willing to provide this personalized type of assistance. Below is just one example:

Mrs. G is a 75 year old Melrose resident who, like so many other seniors, has no family in the immediate area to help her out. She is facing an out-patient medical procedure and the hospital won’t release her unless someone comes in to pick her up and accepts responsibility for getting her home safely. The F.I.S.H Transportation Program is the ideal solution in this situation as the drivers will personally escort their riders to and from their medical appointments. Mrs. Gordon was able to have her procedure with no added worry about who would help her.
