With the end of the school year upon us, a number of our students as well as a faculty member have been recognized with awards from statewide organizations:
Melrose Drama won five awards from the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild for its production of Les Miserables: best supporting actor (Jakob Kahler), best supporting actress (Evynand Akombi), best actor (Keith Morris), best orchestra, and best choral ensemble. You may remember that Melrose Drama got 14 nominations overall—a great recognition of our drama program’s talent and hard work.
Melrose High School Spanish teacher Steven Malley has received the MaFLA (Massachusetts Foreign Language Association) New Teacher Commendation, an award that recognizes new teachers for demonstrated excellence in teaching as well as involvement in school community and professional activities. Specifically, the selection committee recognized Mr. Malley “for the strength of your teaching, service and professionalism.” He will be honored at a luncheon in November, 2016.
The video “Zildjian Cymbals,” produced by Melrose High School juniors Liz Sherman and Devin Castano, won first place in the Amp It Up Challenge, with a prize of $5,000! Congratulations to the students and their teacher, Anthony DiBenedetto, and thank you to all who voted!
