I am pleased to report that last night the City presented its 55+ Needs Assessment to the Board of Aldermen. Over the past year, the Council on Aging has been collecting data from residents over the age of 55 as part of a citywide needs assessment project. This was done through surveys, focus groups, and one-on-one interviews. Overall, we had over 1,000 people participate. Thank you to all those who were a part of the process.
The goal of the project was to identify current and emerging needs of Melrose residents age 55 and up to help develop City programs and policies that create value for all residents, but especially those in this demographic. We wanted to identify what these residents felt they needed most for a healthy lifestyle in Melrose.
We have created an action plan, which is included in this presentation, that will serve as a working document and blueprint for creating new programs throughout the City over the short and long term.
