First Sign-Up Session a Huge Success; Second One is November 2


More than 60 Melrose residents dropped in last week for the first of two open house sessions held by City departments to sign up residents for various discounts and exemptions offered by the City. Departments set up booths within Memorial Hall to create a personalized one-stop shopping experience for residents.

The discounts and exemptions offered are based on age and/or income and include the following:

  • Senior Property Tax Exemption (Age 65+ and income eligible)
  • Water & Sewer Discounts (Age 65+ or income eligible)
  • Solid Waste Fee Discounts (Age 65+ or income eligible)
  • Property Tax Work Program (Age 60+)
  • Veteran Financial and Medical Benefits / Assistance
  • Help Understanding Your Energy Bill
  • Council on Aging Transportation

A second open house will be held on Wednesday, November 2nd from 3pm to 5pm at Memorial Hall. If you plan on attending, please bring the following:

  • Photo Identification
  • Recent Tax Bill
  • 2015 Tax Return (Social Security Statement if no tax return)
  • Electric Bill
  • For veteran’s assistance please bring DD214
