The Sally Frank’s Farmers’ Market is now planning for the summer market season. Our first planning meeting will be Thursday, February 9, 7pm at the Melrose Public Library.
The farmers’ market is planned by a volunteer Board plus several other volunteers who help organize the vendors, communications and media, music, artists, non-profits, events, fundraisers, volunteers, and other planning details. If you would like to help out with planning the farmers market, please join us at our meeting on the 9th.
In addition to the volunteers who plan the farmers market, last year we added 2 paid individuals who are at the market each week during the summer and each month during the winter to keep the market running smoothly. This year we are adding a paid Market Manager position. We are looking to fill two positions: SNAP Coordinator and Market Manager.
The SNAP Coordinator is a part-time position; about 8 hours per market. The SNAP Coordinator will be responsible for operating the point-of-sale machine and market money, getting the word out about the use of SNAP and other benefits available at the farmers market to those in need.
The Market Manager is also a part-time person; about 10 hours per market with additional hours as needed during the winter and off-season. The Market Manager is the principal advocate and operation lead for the market and is responsible for the overall quality of the market experience. The Manager serves as the main point of contact for market goers, volunteers, staff, city officials, and the board of directors. The Manager is responsible for leading the organization in the achievement of annual goals and collaborating with the Board. The Manager will need to be aware of all aspects of the market including finances, program development, communication, fundraising, and administrative activities of the organization.
