The First United Methodist Church of Melrose, 645 Main St., is collecting donated bicycles to support Bikes Not Bombs, the church’s mission program this year. Bikes Not Bombs collects over 5,000 bikes each year and uses them in their youth “earn-a-bike” programs in Jamaica Plain, in their bike shop (also in Jamaica Plain); and to provide parts to partner organizations in Uganda, Guatemala, El Salvador, Kenya and other locations in the Southern Hemisphere. Learn more about Bikes Not Bombs at www.bikesnotbombs.org
Bicycles can be dropped off on the church lawn (645 Main St.) from 10 am-2 pm on Saturday, March 4. Bikes Not Bombs asks for a $10 per bike donation, if possible, at the time of drop off. This helps defray transportation and refurbishing costs. Checks should be payable to First United Methodist Church.
You may also drop off your bike Mondays through Thursdays during the office hours of 9-1, or call the church office at 781-662-7061 to arrange for a FUMC volunteer to come to your location for bike pick-up.
