I had the honor today, together with other members of the Metropolitan Mayors Coalition, to meet with Speaker De Leo to discuss a number of issues that affect Melrose and other cities and towns in the Commonwealth. We talked about the importance of additional educational funding (Chapter 70 aid); the infrastructure and transportation budgets, which are critical to the public transportation system here in Melrose and in the urban core; opioid prevention; as well as the new marijuana law and how it will affect cities and towns.
Speaker De Leo is himself a former selectman, and I always appreciate his willingness to talk to us about local issues as well as Representative Brodeur’s advocacy for the citizens of Melrose in the House of Representatives. The Governor’s budget has been submitted and now the House of Representatives is in the process of proposing their budget in the coming months. It’s an important time for municipal officials and all citizens to advocate for causes that are important to them.
