Gately Donation Boosts Veterans’ Fundraiser

John Gately and John Gately, Jr., present a check for matching funds to Melrose VSO Alicia Reddin

The Annual Veterans’ fundraiser was a big success thanks to the generosity of the Melrose community. With matching funds donated by the Gately Funeral Home, a check for $4,500 was presented to Veterans’ Agent Alicia Reddin. The Gately event is the largest fundraiser of the year, and this year it was boosted by a collection on Veterans’ Day, from parishioners at Incarnation Catholic Parish in Melrose, and by a bake sale put together by a group of local children that raised $40.

The Melrose Veterans Relief Fund is essential for services that might not be covered by other agencies: food, fuel assistance and other incidentals. Alicia noted that one gentleman who benefitted had been in desperate need of a set of dentures, and the fund was able to cover the final cost so he can eat normally again.
