Homecoming Will Welcome Alumni Back to MHS In October

Melrose High School alumni will be welcomed back to the city for a Homecoming Weekend on the Columbus Day weekend this year.

While Melrose High has had homecoming dances, this is the first time that a weekend of activities is being geared toward bringing alumni and students together.

“What we would like to turn it into is an opportunity for Melrose High School graduates to come back and watch their teams play,” said John McLaughlin, who is organizing many of the weekend’s activities.

Homecoming will kick off (literally) with the Melrose-Stoneham football game on Friday, October 6, at Fred Green Field. The Melrose High School Band will perform at halftime. A number of other sports teams will have games on Saturday, and on Sunday there will be a 5K race to benefit the Victoria McLaughlin Foundation, which provides funding for the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School library as well as arts programs and after-school activities for the Melrose Public Schools.

“Homecoming is a great way for generations of Melrose High School alumni to come together, share their experiences, and network with one another,” said Mayor Robert J. Dolan. “It is also an opportunity for alumni to see the great improvements we have made to the Melrose High School facilities in recent years, both the athletic fields and inside the building.”
