Melrose farmers, beekeepers, and gardeners are opening up their farms to the public again this year for the second annual Urban Farm Tour on June 24, 10am-3pm.
This is a self-guided, family-friendly tour of the best urban farms in Melrose. Participants will get tips on edible gardens, see what’s needed for keeping goats, chickens and bees in an urban setting, learn about composting, and have a chance to ask a Master Gardner questions about their own garden. New to the tour this year is a magical fairy garden, and more farms with chickens and bees. The tour begins at Bowden Park (seasonal location of the Sally Franks’ Farmers’ Market), at the junction of W. Emerson, and Vinton Streets, adjacent to the Cedar Park Commuter Rail stop, where participants can pick up the map for the tour stops. Family-friendly activities, music, and lunch for purchase are available between 11:30-2:30pm at Bowden Park. The tour is bike, stroller, drive, and walk friendly.
The tour cost is $20/adult, $5/child 6-18 yrs. Children 5 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased in advance, saving $3 on an adult ticket, online, at the farmers’ market each Thursday starting June 8, and at Buckalews, Hour Glass, and Miter Biter.
All proceeds go to the Sally Frank’s Farmers’ Market which runs every Thursday from June 8th to October 26th, 2-7PM (beginning 9/14 time adjusts to 2-6PM).
