New water bottle refilling station is open at the Middle School

Ribbon cutting

Earlier this year, we reported on the Green Team at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, which had not only collected money to put a water bottle filling station in the middle school but was taking an active part in its purchase and installation. Today was the official ribbon-cutting, and I’m happy to say that 1,400 bottles have been filled since the filling station opened. That’s 1,400 fewer plastic bottles in landfills and recycling bins! Congratulations to the Green Team and their leaders, Recycling Coordinator Jessie Schmitt and science teachers Julia Apostolos and Erik Murray, and thank you to Whole Foods, Mass in Motion, and Melrose Rotary for their support. Next year the Green Team will take on Styrofoam!
